Eminem’s Relapse komt in mei

Nee, liever niet, he…

Time will tell.

SANTA MONICA, CA – March 5, 2009 – Eminem, the biggest selling music artist of the decade, officially announced the street date of his eagerly awaited new album; his first original studio album in over four years. Relapse (Interscope/ Aftermath/Shady) will be released on May 19, 2009. The first single from the album and its accompanying video will see a simultaneous release on April 7th.

Anticipation for Relapse has been building since the fall, when Eminem first announced the album title and debuted the freestyle, “I’m Having A Relapse,” during an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio station. Last month, the release of “Crack A Bottle” from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent brought that anticipation to a head. The track soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem’s second #1 after 2002’s “Lose Yourself”) and set a Nielsen SoundScan record for opening week download sales (418,000). The recording ranked third in the history of all weekly download sales. “Crack A Bottle” will be included as an album track on Relapse.

With the announcement of the release date for Relapse also comes confirmation of something that had been rumored in recent weeks: Eminem is already working on a follow-up album, Relapse 2, that fans can expect in the second half of 2009. “A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year,” said Eminem. “I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.”

Eminem has sold more than 75,000,000 albums worldwide. His previous studio album, Encore, reached #1 and dominated the charts in late 2004. Certified quadruple platinum and spinning off four Top 40 Hot 100 hits, the Grammy-nominated disc has sold more than 11,000,000 copies around the globe. The #1, double platinum, 2005 greatest hits collection, Curtain Call: The Hits and #2, platinum, 2006 various artists compilation, Eminem Presents: The Re-Up, followed. In October 2008, Eminem released “Eminem: The Way I Am”, a book compiling thoughts, stories, and memorabilia from various points in his life. The book entered the New York Times Best-Seller list at #11.

Stat Quo opens up about Aftermath

HipHopGame.com has an interview with Stat Quo, where he opens up about the situation at Aftermath Records.

Would you recommend that other artists sign to Aftermath after your experience?

If you don’t want to put an album out you should sign to Aftermath but if you want to actually put a record out you shouldn’t. You know what Aftermath is good for? It’s good for artist development. They develop artists good but as far as putting product out, I wouldn’t advise any artists signing over there. Look at it. Marsha is at Aftermath. Is there any question that Marsha is dope? There’s no question that she’s dope. Where’s her album? It ain’t coming out! She’s already been successful with Floetry. It ain’t even coming out. It’s not even rap. It’s some other shit. Bishop Lamont, is there any question that Bishop Lamont is dope? No! That’s why Busta Rhymes isn’t on there because that album wasn’t going to come out over there. 50’s going to come out because 50 can. Em can.

Basically all of these artists that are over there, they’re all dope and they are good artists. Going all the way back to The Hitmen, is there any question that Rakim is one of the best rappers ever? Is there any question to that? No, but he didn’t get to put an album out. Look at what Busta Rhymes had to go through to get an album out. Game. A lot of people considered Game to be one of the best rappers. Do you realize that Game would have never put a record out if 50 Cent didn’t come through? Was Game not talented? No. Game was dope. He had been dope. Right? You never would have heard of game had it not been for Jimmy putting Game with 50. Jimmy Iovine made that move. You never would have heard of Game.

When I signed to Aftermath Dre had only mixed one of Game’s records. Now when Jimmy put Game with 50, Game was the king of the West Coast, right? It don’t be about how talented artists are. It don’t have nothing to do with talent. It has everything to do with the inner circle. 50 was hot and then it was okay and then that went bad and Game was out of here. That’s how that went down. One of the head dudes, one of the big dogs, wanted him out so he got Bishop Lamont. Bishop’s incredible! It’s sad over there. It’s sad. Marsha from Floetry, she wrote all these big hits and this girl is not going to come out.

That’s sad as fuck. That shit’s sad, dog. Come on, man. Do you know how many songs Marsha has wrote? Do you know how much dope shit she has done? Come on, bro. They don’t tell you what shit is. Shit is absolutely insane. I could go down the list going all the way back to H&R Block. I can go down the list. There’s countless crews that signed and never got their chance and when they left Dre they couldn’t pick up the pieces and keep it moving to do their own thing. But the difference between them and me is that I don’t have a fear of that regime. I don’t fear the regime. I don’t fear what they have going on. I am still a made man. They won’t make me worse off or break me. I don’t see that as my end or my beginning. I just see that as my past.

Swizz Beatz over Eminem’s “Relapse”

Super-producer Swizz Beats, who’s one of the few working on Eminem’s forthcoming LP, says the Detroit rapper is coming back to “take the cake.”In a recent interview with MTV News, Swizz says Eminem is back and he’s back to take the game over.

It’s different,” Swizz tells MTV. “Different sound, different mindframe. He’s clear. But it’s the Eminem that you missed, that you loved, that you need, especially right now in the industry, going into ’09. He’s coming back to take the cake.”

Swizz says he has worked on five songs with Em and tells MTV of a “classic” collaboration between Eminem, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent that will appear on Relapse as well as Stan Part 2.

“I don’t know the title yet, but it’s classic,” he said. “It’s sounding big” he says.  “You know how ‘Stan’ … was the big [song]? –So I worked on part 2, and I think it was, like, totally genius” he continued.

Swizz says Em’s mindset will be the difference in this album and that “politically driven” songs such as “Mosh” aren’t really found on the LP.

“[There’s] a lot of personal stuff, a lot of people supporting him this time,” Swizz said. “I just think you can hear a new energy in him. And, you know, the producers, everyone’s bringing forth their best on that level.”

Relapse is expected to hit stores in the first quarter of 2009.
